Disclaimers. Have you ever been in a recording session where things have been going really well and then the voiceover talent gets to the disclaimer at the end and simply can’t do it naturally in the time that’s been allocated? Disclaimers can be one of the most challenging parts of a commercial voiceover. 95% of your script has been written to grab the attention of the listener and now you have just a few seconds left to cover off the disclaimer that is legally required to ensure your commercial content meets approval for broadcast, plus it’s usually bursting at the seams with words and there’s just no way around it. Disclaimers are mandatory for so many products and services so getting the right voiceover talent to voice your disclaimer is critical.
Some people find disclaimers make them break into a sweat with panic, but disclaimers are my pet love which is why I’ve devoted a page of my website to them. Nationally and internationally, I am known as a voice talent that can smash out a disclaimer without the need for any time compression. I’ll usually offer to record the disclaimer at the beginning of a session because I’m confidant I’ll be able to read it faster than anyone who has read the script for timing purposes, without sounding like I’m calling a horse race. Me reading the disclaimer faster than you are expecting means we have more time available for the most important creative elements of the copy.
It’s a secret pleasure of mine to know that I can knock a disclaimer out of the park as fast as possible. Got lots of jargon in your disclaimer? No problem. You write it, I’ll “disclaimer” it!
